Angkor Visitor Code of Conduct
Angkor Wat attracts millions of visitors each year. It is an active spiritual site for many Buddhists and Hindus, and it’s also home to many Cambodians living in the surrounding area.
To ensure a respectful and enjoyable experience for all—while helping protect the temples—please follow the established rules and guidelines designed to preserve this sacred heritage site.
🛕 Visitor Guidelines for Temples in Cambodia
Respect Cambodia’s sacred sites by following these important rules during your visit to Angkor Wat and other temples.
👕 Dress Appropriately & Keep Your Modesty
Cover your shoulders and knees before entering temples.
Both men and women must dress respectfully.
Nudity or exposing sexual organs is illegal—you may be fined, arrested, or deported.
After several high-profile incidents involving nude tourists at Angkor Wat, Cambodian authorities have taken these violations seriously.

🛑 Don’t Touch or Vandalize the Monuments
Do not touch carvings, lean on walls, or move anything inside the temples.
Theft or vandalism will result in fines, jail, or deportation—even if unintentional.
Use backpacks, umbrellas, and tripods with care to avoid damage.
🤫 Be Respectful
Temples are sacred places—keep noise to a minimum.
Avoid rude or offensive behavior.
Treat others as you would like to be treated.
🚷 Respect “No Entry” Signs
Restricted zones exist for your safety.
Never enter areas marked “No Entry”—some ruins are unstable.
If you do, you may be asked to leave the park.
♻️ Protect the Environment
Use the trash bins provided—do not litter.
Smoking is not allowed inside temples. It disturbs others and creates fire risk, especially in dry season.
🚫 Don’t Give Money to Children
Buying from or giving to children encourages child labor.
Help responsibly—buy from adult vendors instead.
🙏 Respect Buddhist Monks
Monks are highly respected—women should not touch, sit close to, or stare at monks.
Always ask before taking photos of monks or locals.
