Angkor Wat, a monumental testament to the Khmer Empire’s power and artistry, was primarily constructed during the early 12th century under the reign of King Suryavarman II. This remarkable temple, built between 1113 and approximately 1150 CE, was initially dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu, reflecting the prevailing religious beliefs of the time.
Today, April 1st, 2025, I found myself amidst the ancient stones of Angkor Wat, camera in hand, ready to capture the legendary sunset. Arriving at 6:00 PM, I was greeted by a scene of breathtaking clarity. Unlike yesterday’s hazy conditions, the sky was a canvas of pure, vibrant blue, promising a spectacular display.

According to my information, sunset was to be around 6:16pm. And as the sun began its descent, the temple’s silhouette transformed against the fiery sky. The intricate carvings, the majestic towers, all bathed in the warm, golden light, creating a truly magical atmosphere.
The clear sky enhanced the colors, deepening the oranges and reds as the sun dipped below the horizon. The reflections in the surrounding moat added another layer of beauty, doubling the spectacle. It was a photographer’s dream come true.
